Tech Brief: IDST™— Integral Die Splitting Technology

Safe, efficient means of splitting, cleaning and servicing sheet dies  

for horizontal roll stands approaches— without die removal.

When it comes to die maintenance, several factors establish a guideline for efficiency —minimizing downtime, establishing a safe zone for operators and equipment, and being able to easily access and accomplish the task of servicing the die.  PTi has engineered a system called the IDST^™ (Integral Die Splitting Technology) for the purpose of achieving such goals.

Engineered as a die support system integrated directly into the extrusion line, the IDST^™ is equipped with pneumatic controls and guided linear bearing rails that allow the die to split without having to remove it from the line. As the die opens and smoothly transitions across a railed-system, technicians can work within a guided, controlled die-opening structure and reassemble the die quickly to resume operations.
