Buyer 

 

Description

We are seeking an experienced manufacturing procurement professional for our production Materials Department as a Buyer. Responsibilities will include scheduling material requirements to meet project deadlines, negotiating with suppliers to meet purchasing objectives, placing purchase orders, and expediting materials to meet project deadlines. All machine shop work is out-sourced, experience in managing machine shop suppliers and mitigating any quality issues is necessary. Purchases of steel, castings, machined and fabricated components as well as high end technical components are all the responsibility of this role. All manufacturing efforts of the company are executed through an ERP system. This position would work along side with the other Buyers in the group on the manufacturing side.

 

Requirements

Successful candidate must possess:

  • BS in related field with min 3 - 5 years purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Procurement experience in metals, machine shop and/or metal fabrication preferred.
  • MRP/ERP software, good computer skills and familiar with Microsoft Office Word, Excel, etc...
  • Must have the ability to understand the basics of manufacturing drawings and manufacturing processes and strong knowledge of machine shop practices.
  • Experience with annual spend levels in the range of $5-$10 million.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Procurement experience for a manufacturing company building capital equipment a plus.
  • ISM,CPM/CPSM or APICS Certification not required but a plus.
  • Minimal travel, but may be required to visit suppliers as needed.

 

Reports

This position reports to the Director – Supply Chain.
